Big changes are brewing at Morrisons as the UK supermarket giant announces a wave of closures for 2025. They’re shutting the doors on over 100 stores across the country, including cafés, pharmacies, florists, and even their in-store Market Kitchens. This is set to affect locations from the southern tip in Kent, all the way to Scotland’s northern reaches.

Among the closures, 51 cafés will be saying their final goodbyes, with three cherished spots in Wales on the list. But don’t worry café lovers, Morrisons hints that some regions may see new specialist offers popping up in place of their beloved cafés.

It’s not just cafés feeling the crunch; 17 of Morrisons’ Daily convenience stores have already bid farewell, with one last branch in Haxby, North Yorkshire, shutting down in May. The company’s brass says these cutbacks are crucial as some aspects of the business just weren’t matching up to customer needs and operational costs.
While the shutters are coming down, Morrisons assures us that the café concept isn’t dead. They’re looking to reinvigorate the brand and focus on locations where the cafés still matter most to you. Who knows, maybe in the future, you’ll be seeing some exciting new developments in these spaces!
Chief executive Rami Baitieh acknowledged the tough decisions, citing local challenges as a key factor in these closures. By focusing on the areas that shoppers truly value, Morrisons aims to adapt and thrive in a competitive market.
It’s a bittersweet moment for fans of Morrisons’ Market Kitchens as all 18 locations will close. These spaces were once ripe with diverse dining options, catering to every palate right inside the supermarket.
Florists and pharmacies are not immune to the sweeping changes. The company, which first brought florist stations to many of us, is scaling back as part of a wider strategy to streamline and sharpen its focus on what you love most.
Keep an eye out for how these changes will shape the Morrisons experience and let us know what you hope to see next!
