Exciting news for Rhondda Cynon Taf residents! The disabled parking bay scheme is making a comeback with some much-needed updates. Starting in March 2026, eligible residents can apply for one of the 20 annual parking bays outside their homes—up from the previous 12.

Gone are the days of telephone applications! You can now apply online or in-person at a One4All Centre. To qualify, applicants need a permanent blue badge, certain mobility benefits, and medical evidence from healthcare professionals addressing mobility challenges. While you’ll need to handle the costs of gathering documentation, the £10 admin charge has been scrapped, making the process a tad easier on your pocket.
Some local councillors are thrilled about the scheme’s return and are highlighting its importance for enhancing life experiences and opportunities for those with mobility issues. However, community members have voiced concerns about the process being bureaucratic and expensive. They argue that while it’s great to have these bays, increasing the number could make a significant impact.

The scheme has been a lifeline for many since its original introduction in 2004, with nearly 270 bays installed over the years. But let’s be real, even with increased numbers, demand still overshoots supply. There’s a plea for making the scheme more inclusive and not just a tick-box exercise.
Voices in the community are calling for more radical changes and questioning why inclusion is treated as an optional extra. Their argument is clear: if private businesses can make space for inclusivity, public authorities should too.
A 12-month review is planned after the kick-off to ensure it’s working smoothly. Expect loads of information starting January 2026, so folks can get their docs in order.

What’s your take on this? Should local councils push for more slots? Drop your thoughts in the comments! 😊 #DisabilityInclusion #RhonddaCynonTaf #ParkingBays #CommunityUpdates
