Tragic news from Powys as a 34-year-old man, Jack Samson Edwards-Thomas, has sadly passed away due to an overdose of paracetamol intended to relieve his toothache. Jack, who had been using codeine as well, was found unresponsive at his home in Llandrindod Wells on August 29 last year. Despite being rushed to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, where he was treated for a hypoxic brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen, he passed away on September 3.

The coroner’s inquest concluded that Jack’s tragic death was drug-related, highlighting the critical need for caution when self-medicating. It’s a stark reminder of the dangers associated with the misuse of over-the-counter medications, underscoring the importance of seeking professional medical advice for persistent pain. Jack’s struggle with “illicit” drugs was also noted, painting a broader picture of the challenges he faced.

Inquests like these, though difficult, are vital in helping us understand and prevent similar tragedies. By shedding light on such heart-wrenching events, we honour the lives lost and work towards safeguarding others. Our thoughts are with Jack’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
