🎮 School Meets Gaming! 🎮

Imagine a classroom where gaming is the lesson of the day! At Cardiff’s Mary Immaculate High, students are swapping textbooks for controllers with their brand-new Esports Suite. Packed with 25 gaming PCs and two Formula 1 simulators, this space isn’t just for fun—it’s where passion meets education.

Students can now study for a BTEC in Esports from Year 9, diving into the world of gaming from different angles—whether it’s playing favourites like Fortnite and League of Legends or honing skills in communication, strategy, and teamwork. And yes, all those hours playing can actually help shape future careers in gaming development, IT, and even the military, as some branches look for drone operators with gaming skills.
The suite, backed by ÂŁ130,000 from the local education authority, is more than it seems. It’s a hub where students learn the ins and outs of the gaming industry, from event management to digital media and IT. With careers in Esports booming, the school is proud to offer this cutting-edge facility, helping students step into a thriving global industry valued at billions.
Oreoluwa, Michael, and Kascper, Year 9 students, couldn’t be more thrilled. It’s not just about playing; it’s about learning teamwork, strategy, and gaining tech skills crucial for the future. The suite is a hit among students, boosting attendance and lighting up young imaginations with prospects of exciting careers.
Assistant headteacher Adam Speight emphasises that gaming here isn’t just recreation—it’s education. “We’re teaching them the whole ecosystem—business, IT, and the future of gaming careers.” And with “The Icons” Esports team ready to compete globally, Mary Immaculate is setting a new standard.
Headteacher Huw Powell sees this as the start of something big, blending education with the digital revolution. The school’s initiative is gaining popularity, and with a name like YoyoTech supporting, the future of gaming in education looks promising.
Ready. Set. Game on! 🎮✨
