**A Turkish Tummy Tuck Turned Nightmare: One Mum’s Harrowing Experience**

Ever considered jetting off for cosmetic surgery abroad? Sarah Dyson, a 36-year-old mum from Sandbach, Cheshire, is sharing her cautionary tale after her recent experience in Turkey. Sarah, who worked hard to shed an incredible 15 stone over two and a half years, decided it was time to lose the excess skin left behind. Finding UK prices steep at £17,000, she opted for a more budget-friendly £6,500 package in Istanbul, which included a tummy tuck, arm lift, and liposuction.

While the surgery went smoothly, a dangerous oversight nearly proved fatal. After returning home on 8th September, Sarah began feeling breathless while cooking. Despite dismissing her symptoms initially, a GP visit revealed the shocking truth: she had blood clots on her lungs and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her leg.
The cause? Turkish doctors allegedly forgot to provide blood thinners, crucial after surgery, especially when facing a long flight. The UK’s NHS advises that the risk of DVT rises after surgery and particularly during lengthy flights.
Sarah suffered two cardiac arrests and was resuscitated twice. Now recovering with lifelong blood thinners, she reflects on the ordeal, saying, “My vanity almost cost me my life.”
Sarah is thankful she’s alive but is now dealing with the aftermath, unable to work or drive while she heals. “The surgery isn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend it,” she shares, urging others to deeply consider the risks involved with travelling abroad for surgery.
Her story is a stark reminder of the potential dangers and the importance of thorough research and cautious planning when considering cosmetic procedures, especially abroad.
