🎉 Big changes are coming to Welsh politics! The new proportional representation system, introduced by former First Minister Mark Drakeford, is set to shake up the upcoming Senedd elections this May. With this fresh approach, 96 Senedd members will be elected, a boost from the previous 60. Voters will choose from party lists in 16 larger constituencies, making every vote count! 🗳️

Mark Drakeford, a long-time advocate for proportional representation, believes this system will keep Wales led by progressive parties. He argues that if 30% of Welsh voters support a right-wing party, like Reform UK, they’ll get the same percentage of seats – ensuring a balanced and reflective Senedd.

However, don’t count Reform UK out just yet! Nigel Farage is optimistic, even after a close loss in the Caerphilly by-election against Plaid Cymru. While Plaid’s Lindsay Whittle took the win with 47% of the vote, Reform UK was right behind with 36%.
Polls show Plaid and Reform neck and neck across Wales, with no clear majority in sight. The next election could see exciting coalitions forming as parties work together to lead. 🤝
As Farage puts it, with the D’Hondt system in place, his party might still share the spotlight with Plaid in upcoming elections. It’s all about partnerships and strategy as Wales gears up for its next big political chapter. Stay tuned! 🏛️
