🎉When they said no, he went bigger! 🎉

Meet James Holmes, a determined 51-year-old from Chesterfield, who wasn’t about to back down when the council told him to remove his massive Union Jack flag. His original flag was deemed a “large-format advertisement” and had to be taken down. But did that stop James? Absolutely not!

💪 After Storm Amy destroyed his first flag, James doubled down and spent £2,500 on an even bigger, 100ft Union Jack. This time, minus any slogans or QR codes—just pure patriotic pride. When the council tried again, they found themselves waving the white flag instead!

📍 Chesterfield Borough, led by Labour, eventually decided the enormous flag didn’t breach any planning laws, acknowledging its significance during the national period of Remembrance. A spokesperson said it aligns with values they hold highly too.
“Finally, they’ve found some sense,” James said, relieved, yet firm. He’s spent a whopping ÂŁ15,000 on flags for various sites and isn’t shy about his stance: “I’m standing up for our flag. In other countries, flags fly proudly—why shouldn’t we?”
🇬🇧 Whether you agree or not, you have to admire James’s unwavering commitment to what he believes in. As for Chesterfield, they’re planning a red poppy cascade on the Town Hall just in time for Remembrance Day.
What do you think? Should James have been allowed to keep his giant flag even after the initial controversy? Let us know in the comments! 🌟
