🌊🚨 **Floods Trigger Major Incident in Carmarthenshire!** 🚨🌊

Last night, wild weather wreaked havoc in Carmarthenshire, leading to a major incident declaration! Torrential rain flooded roads, homes, and properties overnight, causing chaos for residents and emergency services alike.

In Whitland, a retirement home on St David’s Avenue was severely hit, leaving dozens trapped. The fantastic emergency services, including Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue (MAWWFRS), sprang into action, rescuing 48 people using water rescue equipment. Residents were safely sheltered at Whitland Town Hall. Massive kudos to those brave crews!

In just 12 hours, emergency teams tackled over 450 calls about flooding. Cars weren’t safe either, with rescue teams assisting three individuals and two dogs stuck in fast-moving water in Ffarmers. Additionally, firefighters attended to about 20 flooded properties in St Clears, helping 42 people to safety with the help of rescue sleds.
Over in Ferryside, more rescues unfolded as teams, along with the RNLI, swiftly evacuated residents to a rugby club turned refuge. Even our furry friends faced peril! At Glanrhyd Dog Sanctuary in Kidwelly, dogs were dramatically saved from rising waters. 🐾❤️
MAWWFRS Assistant Chief Fire Officer Craig Flannery praised his team’s outstanding dedication, as well as the amazing collaboration with partner agencies. He acknowledged the tireless response and urged everyone to stay safe as efforts continue to manage this challenging situation.
A huge round of applause for all the heroes on the ground keeping our communities safe during this testing time. Stay tuned for more updates. Keep safe and dry, everyone!
