👀 Unbelievable Hallucinations After Eye Surgery! 😲

Imagine seeing things that aren’t there—like women with “Baywatch-style breasts”! That’s exactly what happened to Mark Bryan, a retired teacher from Redbridge, London, following an eye operation. He underwent surgery to remove scar tissue caused by diabetic retinopathy, hoping to regain some vision. But post-op, he started experiencing something he didn’t expect—hallucinations!

While frying sausages one day, Mark began to see a pair of breasts in his right eye. This bizarre image, which he jokingly nicknamed ‘Taloula,’ stuck around for 10 days. It appeared when he closed his eyes, brushed his teeth, and even watched TV! At first funny, the hallucinations began to wear on him, causing mini jump-scares multiple times a day.
Turns out, Mark was experiencing Charles Bonnet syndrome, a condition that causes vivid hallucinations following significant vision loss. Many who’ve lost vision struggle with this, as the brain tries to fill in the missing visuals with imagination.
Mark, who’s been managing type-I diabetes for over 20 years, found some humour in the situation despite being a bit embarrassed. His wife April found it equally amusing, especially considering the hallucinations became superimposed on real people! Swearing loudly and focusing intently were the only ways to make the images go away.
Though Mark carried on with another eye procedure in September, thankfully, the hallucinations did not make a reappearance. Reflecting on his experience, Mark laughed it off, saying it’s nice to at least find a funny side to it all!
Who knew eye surgery could lead to such an unusual scenario? We’re just glad Mark can chuckle about his unforgettable, if not slightly mortifying, visual adventure! 😅 #EyeSurgery #Hallucinations #SeeingIsBelieving
