A shocking incident in Port Talbot has left a young woman’s life forever altered. Stephen Parsons, under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman, leaving her feeling “worthless” and filled with anxiety.

The traumatic event has deeply impacted the woman’s confidence and trust in people, a stark contrast to her once outgoing nature. The court heard how Parsons approached her from behind during a gathering, where both had consumed substances, and violated her in a terrifying moment that would change her life.

Despite having past convictions, mostly for motoring offences, Parsons denied these allegations, but a jury found him guilty. The court recognised the assault’s profound impact on the victim, with the judge acknowledging how it affected her thoughts, feelings, and day-to-day life.

During sentencing at Swansea Crown Court, Parsons avoided immediate jail time but received a 14-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. As part of his punishment, he must undergo a rehabilitation programme addressing his substance misuse issues. He’ll also be a registered sex offender for 10 years and must adhere to a restraining order for the same period.
Support for survivors of such traumatic experiences is crucial. There are several organisations available to help those affected by similar incidents.
