Traders in Neath are celebrating after plans for a new transport hub at the railway station were put on hold. The ambitious multi-million-pound project aimed to revamp the station area, combining bus, taxi, and rail services for improved town connectivity. However, it received overwhelmingly negative feedback during consultations, with residents and traders voicing concerns about costs, the scale of the project, and impacts on local businesses.

Many, like Delvin Evans, whose salon was under threat of demolition, were relieved. “Knowing I can continue my business here is a huge relief,” he said. Others shared similar sentiments, preferring upgrades to existing facilities rather than a complete overhaul.

Councillor Nathan Goldup-John has been a long-time opponent of the plan, calling it “flawed” and lacking in “strategic direction.” His views were echoed by the public’s feedback, emphasising the need for a rethink.

Council representatives have pledged to reassess the scheme and explore alternative options that better fit the town’s needs. They plan to collaborate with Network Rail, Transport for Wales, and the Welsh Government for future station developments.
The local community’s voice was clearly heard, highlighting the importance of listening to those impacted by large-scale changes. Stay tuned as the council works on crafting a plan that’s beneficial for all!
