Heartbreaking Story: 98-Year-Old Brenda Evicted from Care Home

Meet Brenda Miles, a 98-year-old widow, and former bookbinder battling dementia. After spending her entire £240,000 life savings on care costs, Brenda was given just two days’ notice to leave the care home where she has spent the last five years. 💔

Brenda, who has no children, moved into Innage Grange in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, in 2020, following the death of her beloved husband, Gordon. Her monthly care bills have been around £4,000, swiftly depleting her savings below the £23,000 mark needed for state assistance.
Her family pleaded with the council for help, hoping she could stay at Innage Grange. However, their request was denied as the costs were deemed too high. Heartbroken, Brenda was relocated to a more affordable home, something her niece Victoria described as being ‘just plain wrong.’
Victoria shared the emotional toll the move has had on Brenda, noting that when she was taken to Hilton Brook House, she tearfully asked, “Where are all my friends?” Many of her belongings were left behind, adding to the distress.
Despite their efforts, including reaching out to their local MP, the family couldn’t reverse the council’s decision. Brenda is now in a home without ensuite facilities, which poses challenges considering her mobility issues. Though the staff is friendly, the absence of familiarity and comfort has been deeply unsettling for Brenda.
