A whopping 46% of Gen Z women are confident in their painting and decorating chops, compared to just 28% of blokes. And when it comes to putting up shelves, 33% of young women are up to the task, leaving only 21% of men feeling as capable.

Interestingly, Gen Z fellas seem to be fumbling with the basics—only 31% are comfortable changing a light bulb! This is quite the shift from the Baby Boomers, where a staggering 94% of men felt at ease with the same task.

Jessica Frame from Halfords, who led the survey of 2,000 people, comments on this generational shake-up: “It’s fantastic to see young women confidently taking on DIY projects, a shift from what we’ve seen with older generations. We’re moving away from outdated gender stereotypes!”

🔎 Did you know? A striking 86% of Gen Z women were encouraged to dive into practical tasks during their upbringing, the highest compared to any other generation. Meanwhile, most of these DIY-savvy women credit their parents for passing on these handy skills, while many others turn to the internet for guidance.

So, ladies, grab those tools and show everyone how it’s done! With the right kit and a bit of know-how, there’s no stopping you from tackling your next DIY project.
