🚴‍♀️ **Tragic Cycling Accident Verdict** 🚚

In a deeply emotional case that gripped the community, a lorry driver was found not guilty of causing the death of a beloved cyclist, Nicolette Lewis. Nicolette, described by her family as a “beautiful mother and wife” and a “wonderful soul,” tragically lost her life when she was struck from behind by an HGV while cycling on the A476 in Carmarthenshire last October.

The driver, John Evans, claimed he was temporarily blinded by the low sun and didn’t see Nicolette ahead. After a detailed three-day trial at Swansea Crown Court, the jury found Evans not guilty, accepting his account of a tragic accident rather than careless driving. The court heard that Evans had been driving for almost nine hours that day, adhering to all required breaks and regulations, and that the road and weather conditions were clear, with the sun low in the sky.
It was a sobering reminder of life’s unpredictability and its potential dangers. Both Nicolette and Evans were caught in circumstances perhaps beyond anyone’s control, as highlighted by the defence’s portrayal of the incident. The judge noted that such cases are among the hardest to try, emphasising the inherent risks in driving despite our best efforts to be safe.
The tragedy is compounded by the recent passing of Nicolette’s husband, Andrew, who had seen her for the last time on that fateful evening. Our thoughts are with the Lewis family during this extremely difficult time.
Please stay safe out there, everyone. Cycling and driving require vigilance and care on every journey. đź’”
