Eagle-eyed police officers in Swansea have nabbed two drug dealers after spotting a suspicious queue at a cash machine. This unlikely bust unfolded when officers noticed familiar faces known for drug use waiting to withdraw cash near the High Street.

Curiosity piqued, they followed the group to a nearby car, suspecting dodgy dealings. And they were spot on! Inside the vehicle, cops arrested Kelly Hopkins and Sion Harrison along with two others after spotting what looked like drug transactions. A search revealed heroin, pregabalin tablets, and drug paraphernalia, along with tell-tale messages on seized phones.

Hopkins and Harrison faced Swansea Crown Court, where the judge pointed out the destructive impact of drugs on the community but chose not to lecture them, hoping they’d realise the damage. Hopkins, 35, was sentenced to 40 months, while Harrison, 27, received 45 months. Both sentences come with time served in custody followed by licence release.
Their legal teams painted contrasting pictures—Hopkins, a long-time part of the drug scene struggling with addiction, and Harrison, a once-promising chef whose life was derailed after losing his job. Sandwiched between excuses of peer pressure and personal turmoil, these sentences serve as a strong reminder: crime truly doesn’t pay.
By turning away from quick cash schemes and recognising their harmful effects on society, both defendants have a rocky road ahead, but it’s a chance for new beginnings. As stated by a local officer, their incarceration leaves the community better off, with a clear message that the damage wrought by Class A drugs won’t be tolerated.
