‘Former Royal Staff Member’s Career Hangs in the Balance Following Unforeseen Royal Task’

Imagine getting a call to create a portrait for the Queen herself! That’s exactly what happened to contemporary artist Chris Levine back in 2003. Out of nowhere, Chris found himself tasked with crafting a “modern, almost futuristic” portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. At first, he thought it was a prank, but soon realised it was the real deal when he was invited to the National Portrait Gallery.

Leading up to the big day, Chris was hit with a wave of nerves. “This could either skyrocket my career or end it,” he thought. But the surprises didn’t stop there. He was asked what he wanted the Queen to wear and even got the chance to browse her personal collection of clothes and jewellery! Talk about a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Meeting the Queen was surreal for Chris. He described her as having a unique way of keeping her thoughts hidden. “She wasn’t giving anything away,” he noted. Throughout the sitting, Chris felt as if he were in a dream, marvelling at the fact that he was telling the Queen what to do!

His work must have impressed because he was called back for two more projects. His last meeting with Her Majesty was just weeks before her passing in September 2022. Despite rumours about her health, Chris remembered her looking vibrant, with a ‘sparkle in her eye’.

His portrait has since become one of the most iconic images of the beloved monarch, who passed away peacefully at 96. As King Charles III aptly put it, her death was “a moment of great sadness,” echoing the feelings of many around the world.

From a surprise phone call to an unforgettable encounter, Chris Levine’s story is a fascinating glimpse into a unique royal experience. 🌟🎨👑
