Tragedy has struck as a young girl has passed away following a misdiagnosis, shedding light on the importance of understanding and recognising severe symptoms. Azzurra Breda, only 12 years old, was initially sent home from the hospital with a flu diagnosis despite showing signs of a severe illness. Her condition worsened, and just two days later, she lost her battle to pneumonia.

The heart-rending incident took place in Italy, where Azzurra lived with her family. After being seen at the paediatric A&E for fever and breathing difficulties, she was sent home. The young girl, who loved dancing and playing the piano, tragically passed on New Year’s Eve, leaving a community in mourning.

Azzurra’s parents, Valentina and Mattia, are devastated by the loss of their vibrant daughter, who had no prior health conditions and excelled academically and in sports. Mayor Guido Carlin expressed heartfelt condolences, remembering her as a beloved and active member of the community.
The incident has sparked an investigation, aiming to uncover the details surrounding her diagnosis and untimely death. A post-mortem is being conducted today as part of the inquiry.
In the UK, pneumonia is recognised as a serious lung infection that can escalate quickly. The NHS advises urgent medical attention if symptoms like persistent cough, shortness of breath, or severe chest pain occur. In life-threatening situations, such as difficulty breathing or confusion, immediate emergency services should be contacted.
