Exciting news for those in the Vale of Glamorgan! Plans are in the works for a massive new solar farm set to power up to 13,800 homes with green energy. The project, brought to you by Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, a company owned by the Welsh Government, is planned for Lavernock, nestled between Sully and Penarth.

This eco-friendly initiative will sit close to the UK’s largest net-zero housing development at Upper Cosmeston Farm, where Barratt Redrow and the Welsh Government are teaming up to build 576 new homes. The housing project aims to address local housing needs, though it hasn’t been without concerns over green space loss and location.

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru is keen to involve the community in shaping their plans, with hopes of enhancing nature by creating habitats for bees, birds, and other wildlife. They’re also committed to maintaining access for walkers, particularly to the beloved Wales Coastal Path. Plus, profits from the solar farm will go back into public services—a win for everyone.

Mark Roberts, the project manager, is eager to engage with local residents to build strong community ties. He promises that feedback from the local community will help refine the development’s design, ensuring harmonious coexistence with the surrounding habitats.
