❄️ Skiers and snowboarders have transformed Pen y Fan into a snowy playground with the first lift-served snow sports seen there in four decades! More than 30 enthusiasts hit the slopes this past weekend after Storm Goretti blanketed the area in a winter wonderland. It was a picture-perfect day with thick snow and clear blue skies—ideal for anyone craving a snow adventure! 🌨️

Christian Morris, a keen snow sports enthusiast, said it was amazing to experience lift-served skiing on south Wales’ highest peak again. These portable ski lifts are a dream, weighing just 10 pounds and fitting into a backpack, unlike the cumbersome rope tows of the ’80s. 🎿

The snow was around 20cm deep, and thanks to the wind, it varied in different spots, making it an exhilarating ride. Christian described being able to ski so close to home as raw and feral. He believes Bannau Brycheiniog is an underrated snow sports destination and encourages more people to explore the natural beauty of a Welsh winter. ❄️🏔️
The slopes near the Pont ar Daf car park are perfect for beginners, and the sense of community was strong among those gathered, mostly members of the Brecon Beacons Ski Club—an online group of over 1,100 members and growing! ⛷️
This snowy escapade comes just as planning permission was granted for a colossal £300 million indoor snow centre in Merthyr Tydfil, set to be the UK’s largest, putting south Wales firmly on the snow sports map! 🏂
Ready to hit the slopes? Grab your gear and head to Pen y Fan for an unforgettable snowy adventure! 🌨️⛷️
