๐จ Young Workers Struggling with Mental Health ๐จ

It’s no secret – young adults in the UK are feeling the heat both in and out of the workplace. Almost 40% of young employees have taken time off due to mental health issues arising from stress over the past year. ๐

A recent survey painted a worrying picture: over 90% of people say they faced high stress levels, and young adults aged 18-24 are particularly vulnerable, with a staggering 93% reporting extreme stress. The pressures of heavy workloads, fears of redundancy, and feelings of isolation are taking a toll. Some have also pointed to money worries and poor sleep, making the daily grind feel even tougher.
Mental Health UK warns that we’re trying to supercharge the economy while battling stress like driving with the handbrake on! ๐๐จ Their chief executive, Brian Dow, emphasises the urgent need for employers to step up and create open channels about mental health to prevent burnout from pushing talented young workers out of the job market.
Interestingly, women facing menopausal symptoms have also identified these as stress contributors, especially those aged 45 to 54. It highlights the multi-faceted nature of mental health struggles across different age groups and life stages.
Support seems lacking upon returning to work after taking stress leave, with nearly 30% of affected workers saying they got no support and less than 20% having a proper return-to-work plan. ๐ค
