A mum is urging a ban on slushies for kids after her daughter, Luna, fell into a worrying ‘comatose-like state.’ The four-year-old was out shopping with her grandma when she enjoyed a blue slushy. But within half an hour, Luna complained of a headache, vomited, and nearly passed out in the car. Grandma Susan quickly called mum Jess Mellors who was horrified by Luna’s lethargic state. Jess shared that Luna seemed to fall asleep on the floor, unresponsive for 30 minutes.

After some quick research, Jess found that the Food Standards Agency had advised against giving slush drinks with glycerol to children under seven. This mum of five is now calling for stricter measures: slushies should only be sold to kids if parents are present, and never to those under seven. Jess, from Tamworth, Staffordshire, recalls: “She was absolutely fine until her nan rang saying Luna wasn’t well and had been sick.”
Susan adds, “We got her a slushy as a treat, but she soon complained of a headache and burped loudly before feeling very unwell. It all happened so fast.” Jess explained that after bringing Luna home, she was worried since her daughter couldn’t even muster the energy to get to bed. While Luna eventually recovered, the ordeal has left Jess questioning the safety of these seemingly kid-friendly drinks.

Jess insists, “These drinks might appear fun, but they should come with warnings just like energy drinks. They’re toxic and kids shouldn’t be having them without supervision. Luna won’t be getting another slushy, that’s for sure!” Should there be stricter rules for slushies? Share your thoughts!
