Legal Dispute Halts Development of Thrillseekers’ Oasis Offering Kayaking and Coasteering

Exciting plans for a new adventure centre in Moylegrove, Pembrokeshire have hit a snag after being withdrawn following a legal battle. The proposal, which included kayaking and coasteering among other activities, was originally given the green light by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s development management committee. However, a legal challenge revealed the approval process was flawed, leading to its overturning.

The centre was set to breathe new life into the Old Bus Depot site, but concerns had been raised about the impact on local wildlife. Opponents, including the community council and Wild Justice, feared that increased activity from adventure seekers could disturb nesting birds and breeding seals.

In a dramatic twist, a high court judge found that necessary environmental information hadn’t been shared in time, and the potential impact on wildlife, especially the vulnerable chough population, had not been fully considered. As a result, the application was quashed, and Adventure Beyond Ltd, the company behind the proposal, has decided to withdraw its plans for now.

Jet Moore from Adventure Beyond defended their environmental practices, claiming objectors caused more harm than the proposed activities ever would. Despite this setback, all eyes are on what Adventure Beyond will do next. They hinted at possibly submitting a new or revised plan in the future, which would be reviewed from scratch.

Ceibwr Bay, part of multiple conservation areas and a haven for wildlife like razorbills and grey seals, will remain untouched for the moment. If new plans are submitted, local residents and environmental groups will have another chance to weigh in.
