🚨 DWP Deadline Looming: Will Compensation Arrive for 1950s-Born Women? 🚨

Attention all: The fight for justice is heating up as 100 MPs rally together, urging the UK Government to finally compensate women born in the 1950s, who were blindsided by state pension age changes. The clock is ticking for work and pensions secretary Pat McFadden, with MPs demanding an update by 2 March.
Back in November, McFadden promised a reevaluation of the previous decision not to compensate these women, following revelations of a 2007 DWP move that stopped sending automatic pension forecast letters. While this move has brought new hope, there’s still no guarantee of compensation.

Angela Madden from Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) recently voiced her frustration, saying: “It’s high time ministers stopped stalling and started compensating Waspi women.” The Liberal Democrats’ Steve Darling echoed this sentiment, highlighting the injustice faced by these women, who were not informed in time to plan for retirement properly.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman previously suggested compensation of up to £2,950 for those affected, but the government, citing a potential £10.5 billion cost to taxpayers, has been hesitant.
As we await the DWP’s decision within the three-month review period, one thing is clear: the pressure is on. Will the government finally do right by the women who have been waiting too long? Let’s hope for a fair resolution soon.
