Tragedy in Moreton: In a grim incident of targeted revenge, 53-year-old grandmother Jackie Rutter was senselessly murdered on her doorstep. Three men – James Byrne, Simon Allen, and David Harrison – have now been convicted of her murder, while Barrie Glynn faces manslaughter charges. The gruesome act was linked to a dispute over a stolen phone tied to a local drug operation known as the “JJ Line.”

On that fateful night, the perpetrators arrived in a stolen black Vauxhall Insignia. In a cowardly move, Jackie was shot in the chest, leaving a family shattered. The car used in this brutal act was later set ablaze, with Allen taking charge of the destruction while Glynn drove the getaway vehicle.

Justice is slowly being served as the men were also found guilty of firearm and arson charges. Sentencing by the High Court judge is set to take place soon. Meanwhile, Anna McGinn, a fifth defendant, was acquitted of assisting the offenders after an intense court process.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Jackie’s sons were said to be involved in the escalating tension that led to this tragedy, having allegedly taken the phone from the accused. The story is yet another reminder of the ripple effects of drugs and violence on our communities.
As the trial unfolded, revealing a web of deception and violence, the absence of Preston Connolly, another key figure who fled to Turkey, leaves many questions unanswered. As justice seeks to close this tragic chapter, the pain of losing a beloved mother and grandmother remains raw for Jackie’s family.
Our thoughts are with Jackie’s loved ones. It’s a stark reminder of how precious and fragile life is, urging communities to strive for peace and safety, steering clear from the ravages of drugs and crime.
