A tragic story from Birmingham has left a community in shock. A 14-year-old, now 15, has pleaded guilty to the shocking murder of 12-year-old Leo Ross. The innocent boy was stabbed in an unprovoked attack while on his way home from school through Shire Country Park in Hall Green last January.

Leo, remembered by his family as “amazing, kind, and loving,” was simply heading home when this senseless act of violence ended his young life. The tragic event has sent ripples of heartbreak through his family, friends, and the local community.
The young defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, carried out this unthinkable act with a knife and later tried to deceive officers by claiming he had found Leo in distress. Additional charges against him include grievous bodily harm from other attacks just days before. Unfortunately, the murder weapon was discovered in a nearby river, adding to the devastating details of the case.

Sentencing is set for 10 February, with a day’s hearing expected. The judge has acknowledged the complexity and gravity of the situation, while West Midlands Police have underlined how this case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of carrying knives.
Leo’s foster family and his birth mother have issued heart-wrenching statements, sharing their immense grief and emphasising the void left by his absence. They describe Leo as a boy full of life, loved by everyone, and wise beyond his years. Their resilience in seeking justice, even though it cannot bring their beloved Leo back, is a testament to their enduring love for him.
Our thoughts are with Leo’s family during this unimaginably difficult time. This tragic story underscores the deadly consequences of knife crime and the urgent need for awareness and prevention. 🕊️💔
