A stunning Anglesey beauty spot is back in the limelight! Penrhos in Holyhead, known for its natural charm and loved by many, is up for sale again. This site, which has been at the heart of a 15-year debate, was set to become a massive £250m holiday park with 500 luxury lodges. But plans hit a roadblock when its owners went into administration last year. Now, with 324 acres on the market, local campaigners are rallying to protect this cherished haven.

The site’s agents are promoting it as a unique opportunity to create a top-tier leisure destination. Yet, the Save Penrhos Coastal Park group is urging Anglesey Council to reject any attempts to extend planning permissions due to environmental concerns that have come to light since planning consent was granted in 2016. The current planning permission expires in April 2026 and no renewal applications have been filed thus far.

Being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Penrhos is more than just a picturesque location. For locals, it’s a vital community hub that supports thousands of visitors each week. The campaign group isn’t against progress but believes development here should prioritise sustainable practices, possibly through eco-tourism rather than large-scale felling of vital woodland areas.
The land’s former owner, the 79th Group, is currently under investigation for alleged investment fraud. This has added another layer of complexity to the sale and future of Penrhos.
As the clock ticks towards the end-date for existing planning permissions, the debate around Penrhos is heating up. Will future plans honour the beauty and significance of this unique region, or will it transform into a holiday hotspot? Keep watching this space for more updates!
