🌍 Did you feel it? A tiny 0.9-magnitude earthquake hit the stunning Nantlle Valley in Eryri on Wednesday night! Confirmed by the British Geological Survey, this tremor marks the second in Wales this year after a minor shake in Cardiff back in January.

The quake happened on a hillside near Mynydd Mawr, at an 8km depth. Despite the surprise movement, no impacts were reported. The B4418, a scenic route known for its breathtaking mountain views, lies just above the epicentre.

Around the same time, residents in Denbighshire reported feeling an unexplained rumble that shook their wardrobes. Although the British Geological Survey has no record of seismic activity there, it adds to the evening’s mysterious vibes.

Did you know the UK’s quakey hot spots? Last year, Scotland’s Loch Lyon led the charts with 34 tremors, including two strong ones measured at 3.7 and 3.6 magnitude. Meanwhile, the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd has a history too, with the UK’s biggest onshore quake striking there in 1984.
Though major quakes are rare, these small tremors remind us that the ground beneath our feet is always on the move. In fact, the UK averaged almost an earthquake a day in 2025!
Stay safe and keep your eyes on the ground—or better yet, the sky over Wales! 🌄✌️
