🚨 Pet Owners, Take Note! 🚨

Think twice before reaching for that air freshener to tackle pet odours! Many go-to options, like essential oil diffusers and sprays, could be putting furry friends at risk. 🐾

Dr Heather Burton, a veterinary expert, warns that popular scents might contain harmful chemicals and oils. For our pets, who have super-sensitive noses, even a little exposure can lead to big problems—think respiratory issues, vomiting, and even organ damage. 😟
🐈 Cats are especially at risk since they can’t break down certain compounds found in many oils. Beware of oils like tea tree, cinnamon, and citrus!
🐕 While dogs have more tolerance, especially larger breeds, they’re not out of the woods either. Small breeds, older pups, and those with health conditions are more susceptible.
🐦 And for bird owners, it’s a total no-go!
Diffusing methods matter, too. Ultrasonic and electric diffusers disperse tiny oil droplets easy for pets to inhale or ingest from surfaces. Reed diffusers, while somewhat safer, still need to be used cautiously.
So, what’s a pet-loving home to do? Here are some tips to keep your space smelling fresh without the risk:
– Try DIY simmer pots with citrus peels or cinnamon sticks for natural scents.
– Use odour absorbers like baking soda or activated charcoal around the house.
– Stay on top of regular cleaning and grooming—keeping pet areas tidy can work wonders.
– Keep the air flowing! Open windows and use fans to ventilate rooms.
Always check those labels and opt for scents known to be safer like rosemary or cedarwood, but remember, moderation is key! 🌿
