🎗 Gyles Brandreth shares a deeply personal journey about his grandson Kitt’s brave battle against cancer. Diagnosed at just 15 months old with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer, Kitt’s journey proved a “shock to the system” for the family.

Gyles, known for his witty TV presence, found himself in an unexpected and emotional battle. Initially dismissed as a cyst or hernia, Kitt’s condition turned out to be much more serious, requiring rigorous treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Gyles recalls the profound relief upon hearing that Kitt would be treated at GOSH, renowned for its exceptional cancer care.

Despite the harsh side effects of chemotherapy and a frightening bout with a severe infection, Kitt persevered. His family’s love and the hospital’s incredible support made a daunting situation more bearable. Gyles praises the staff for their unwavering support, saying each member of the team was “matchless at every level,” ensuring the family never felt alone.
While Kitt’s parents focused on his care, Gyles stepped up as Grandpa, providing laughter and moments of normalcy amidst the chaos. Together, they tackled jigsaws and shared funny poems, making the most of the hospital’s playroom.
Gyles also highlights the importance of evolving cancer treatments, acknowledging the significant advancements like CAR T-cell therapy pioneered at GOSH. Yet, he stresses more needs to be done, especially with many children’s cancers still relying on treatments from the 1970s.
Now, at 10 years old, Kitt has been in remission for eight years, a testament to his resilience and the care received. Gyles supports GOSH Charity’s mission to build a world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre, hoping for kinder treatments for young fighters like Kitt.
As World Cancer Day approaches, let’s unite to support the crucial work of charities like GOSH, advocating for better futures for children battling cancer. 🎗💪 #GylesBrandreth #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #WorldCancerDay #HopeForKitt
