🚨 New Health Alert 🚨 Do you enjoy a comforting bowl of soup on a chilly day? 🥣 Well, here’s a piece of news that’ll make you rethink your choices. Almost one in four soups sold in UK shops contain more salt than you might expect!

The latest study by Action on Salt and Sugar (AoSS) reveals that some popular soup brands are loaded with salt, exceeding Government guidelines. Shockingly, 48% of branded soups surpass the maximum salt target—while only 6% of supermarket own-label soups do the same. 😲
For instance, a single serving of Soup Head Tom Yum contains as much salt as two McDonald’s cheeseburgers! Other high-salt culprits include Daylesford Organic Minestrone and Baxters Luxury Cullen Skink. Under current labelling, many of these soups would flash a red warning for their salt content. 🌡️

Sonia Pombo from AoSS reminds us that while soup is often seen as a healthy choice, the hidden salt can turn an innocent meal into a sodium bomb. With nearly a quarter of soups not meeting salt reduction targets, it’s time for the UK to get serious about salt. 💪

But it’s not all bad news! Some brands are stepping up to the challenge. Heinz has been working since the 1980s to reduce salt across their range, and Asda’s soups meet healthy classification standards. Even Daylesford is revising its labels to reflect true sodium levels.
Retailers are eager to strike that perfect balance between health, taste, and quality, ensuring you know exactly what’s in your tin. So, next time you’re reaching for that comforting soup, have a peek at the label and make a choice that keeps both your tastebuds and health happy! 🥕🥦 #SoupSavvy #HealthAlert #SodiumSmart
