The Six Nations is upon us, and while there’s always a sense of excitement in the air, it seems Wales might be in for a challenging ride this year. Former World Rugby referee Nigel Owens has shared his thoughts, and he’s got a few things to say about what to expect from Wales in the 2026 tournament.

It’s no secret that Wales has been struggling a bit lately, with the team still trying to regain the formidable strength it once had. Remember the days when players like Gethin Jenkins and Alun Wyn Jones dominated the field? Well, we all know those days seem a little distant right now. Our forwards have been our backbone, and without that rock-solid presence, winning the game’s physical battles could be tricky.

As we head into tough away games against England and Ireland, it’s crucial we keep hope alive. Twickenham is the next stop and while Wales-England games always have that derby spark, it’s going to be a tough feat. Then there’s Ireland and France – both formidable, but with a sliver of an upset possible if everything aligns just right.

For a silver lining, we’ve shown glimpses of brilliance in the past, especially against Scotland and Italy. Scotland, despite being unpredictable, almost toppled New Zealand. And Italy, no longer the easy beat, is always a wildcard.
Nigel Owens, much respected in the rugby community, reckons France is a strong contender for the championship title, with England trailing closely. In his eyes, two wins for Wales would be a solid achievement this year, especially after last year’s rough patch.
To everyone cheering on Wales: Let’s keep the faith! Two wins could be around the corner, and who knows what else the Six Nations might have in store? Allez les Rouges! 🏉🏆
