A chilling encounter unfolded when an acquaintance was violently attacked with a rusty hammer by 20-year-old Kian Davies and his balaclava-wearing accomplice, Shay Jones, 21. The duo wasn’t just content with attacking; they demanded their victim hand over his belongings. When the victim initially refused, he was threatened with more violence.

Later, using the victim’s phone, the troublemakers tried to hustle more cash by texting his housemate, pretending to be him. Fortunately, a suspicious response led them on a wild goose chase, leaving empty-handed and frustrated. But they didn’t stop there. The next day, they attempted to extort money from another person at Porth train station, again relying on intimidation.

The justice system served its course when both men faced Cardiff Crown Court. Davies, already with a criminal past, was handed a five-year and one-month sentence. Jones, who had no previous record, received four years and three months. Both were slapped with restraining orders to keep their victims safe.

An unfortunate tale that revisits the harsh realities some face in their communities. But justice prevailed, reminding us all that crime doesn’t pay.
