Heartbreaking news for skiing fans: Olympic legend Lindsey Vonn faces an uncertain future after a devastating crash at the Winter Olympics. Just 13 seconds into the women’s downhill final in Cortina, she suffered a horrific “complex” tibia fracture, leaving her screaming in the snow. Airlifted to hospital, the 41-year-old is now focusing on simply keeping her leg.

After bravely overcoming an ACL rupture to compete, Vonn’s journey has turned even more challenging. Leading orthopaedic expert Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet warns that injuries like hers can sometimes lead to amputation, stressing that recovery will take months. While Vonn recently revealed she’s had a “successful” third surgery, an external fixator remains in place, indicating the severity of her condition.

Another medical expert, Nicolas Baudrier, highlighted that these injuries could involve multiple bone fragments and potential nerve or muscle damage, making recovery long and arduous.
Vonn’s father, Alan Kildow, confirmed that her days of competitive skiing are likely over, stating, “She’s 41 years old and this is the end of her career.” Despite the grim prognosis, he praised her incredible strength and resilience in dealing with this adversity.
We wish Lindsey a speedy recovery and hope to see her inspire in new ways off the slopes. 🌟 Keep fighting, Lindsey! 🏆⛷️
