A man accused of the heinous murder of Paria Veisi, whose body was discovered at a residential property in Cardiff, has made his first appearance in court. The grim discovery was made by the police at a house in Penylan following a missing person appeal for the 31-year-old victim. Paria had been missing since leaving her workplace in Canton on April 12, driving her black Mercedes GLC 220.
Paria’s sudden disappearance was flagged as entirely uncharacteristic, prompting a widespread search effort and a plea for information from the public. Described as having long, curly black hair, she was last seen donning a black zip-up gym top over a red one, along with black trousers and trainers whilst carrying a small handbag. The community was left in shock by the chilling turn of events as the search for Paria shifted to a murder investigation.
Alireza Askari, aged 41, was charged with the murder, alongside accusations of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body, and an assault resulting in actual bodily harm. In a related development, Maryam Delavary, aged 48 from White City Estate, London, faced charges of preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body and conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Both the accused individuals made their appearance at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court and later at Cardiff Crown Court.
During the court proceedings, the defendants – Askari and Delavary – acknowledged their personal details but refrained from making any further statements. The presiding Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, remanded both individuals in custody until a plea trial scheduled for May 16. Additionally, a tentative trial date of October 6 has been earmarked, expected to span four weeks as the legal proceedings progress.
In remembrance and honour of Paria Veisi, a memorial gathering has been arranged at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre on April 23. The community has been invited to join in commemorating the life of Paria, celebrating her kindness, selflessness, and the joyful moments she shared with those around her. The service is intended to offer solace to those grieving her untimely passing and pay homage to the beautiful life she led.
At this somber juncture, the Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell of South Wales Police, expressed gratitude towards those who had come forward with information since the launch of the appeal. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to Paria’s family, friends, and the local community, acknowledging the profound impact of these distressing events.
The tragic incident involving the murder of Paria Veisi has shaken the Welsh community to its core, raising concerns and underlining the importance of community support and vigilance in such distressing circumstances. The case continues to unfold as the legal process takes its course, with many awaiting further updates and hoping for justice to be served. Stay tuned for more developments on this evolving story.
