**Eamonn Holmes Left “Sore” After Dramatic On-Air Fall During GB News Broadcast**
Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has revealed he is experiencing significant discomfort following a fall from his chair during a live GB News broadcast. The incident occurred amidst an already challenging month for the 65-year-old, who was recently hospitalised after a fall at his home.
The Northern Irish presenter was co-hosting the GB News morning segment alongside Ellie Costello when the mishap unfolded. Viewers could hear a loud bang in the studio while cameras were trained on guest commentator Charlie Rowley. Holmes, ever the professional, urged Rowley to continue speaking as the commotion played out offscreen. Costello could be heard expressing concern, exclaiming, “oh my gosh”, at the moment of the accident.
After a brief commercial break, Holmes returned to the show and attempted to reassure his audience. “Welcome back. Good to see you again. Especially good for me to see you again. I am still alive, yes,” he joked, seeking to make light of the unexpected situation. Holmes went on to blame the incident on the studio furniture, stating, “They’re very wonky wheels on the chairs that we’ve got here, and, matter of fact, we don’t really like the chairs full stop, do we? They’re a bit slippy and slidey and I’ve slipped and slid off mine there.”
Holmes, who is well known for his longstanding broadcasting career across British TV, was keen to point out that he was not the first person to take a tumble from the studio’s troublesome chairs, hinting that several other esteemed guests had encountered similar accidents. “We’ve had a few, they have to remain nameless because they’re well-known people, but they’ve hit the floor really badly, quite frightening,” he confessed. For Holmes, however, the experience was made all the more alarming given his recent medical history, adding, “It was a bit of a shock for me because I’ve had a fall in my bathroom two weeks ago, which hospitalised me, and that hit me again right in the back. (I’m) really, really sore. Really sore.”
Holmes went on to clarify the mechanics of his fall, explaining that the chair “gave way”, causing him to end up flat on his back. As the morning wore on, Holmes acknowledged developing more aches and pains, likely exacerbated by his previous injuries. He elaborated on the coincidental similarity between this latest incident and his hospitalisation earlier in the month, “This was at a time when I was hospitalised two weeks ago for a very similar fall in the same area, back of the head, my neck, my shoulders. So it all came back, as it were.”
Charlie Rowley, present during the mishap, took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend Holmes’s composure, writing, “@EamonnHolmes YOU are the real hero for carrying on this morning. A true professional and National Treasure who I learn from each and every week. It’s a privilege working with you, @elliecostelloTV and the rest of the @GBNEWS family. Take care!”
This is not the first time the experienced broadcaster has shared details of his health battles with the public. Earlier this month, Holmes posted on Instagram from inside an ambulance, expressing gratitude to the emergency services who aided him after his bathroom accident. Holmes has previously disclosed longstanding struggles with mobility due to back issues, including damaged discs pressing on his sciatic nerve. These ailments have required extensive medical interventions, such as spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. He has also recounted the daily challenges of walking and using a mobility scooter.
Despite these obstacles, Holmes remains committed to his work and open with his audience about his ongoing health journey. His determination in the face of difficulty was on full display during Wednesday’s programme, a quality that has endeared him to viewers for decades.
In addition to his professional endeavours, Holmes’s personal life has garnered recent attention. Last year, it was announced that he and his wife, Ruth Langsford, with whom he tied the knot in 2010, had decided to part ways.
As Holmes recovers from this latest setback, many within the broadcasting community have praised his resilience and unwavering commitment to his craft—even in the face of physical adversity. The incident also raises further questions about studio safety and the suitability of on-set equipment, something producers may now be prompted to address.
