A 27-year-old man remains in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision in Swansea over the weekend, prompting a police investigation and a public appeal for information.

The incident occurred at approximately 11am on Sunday, 1 June, along Ty Draw Road near Bonymaen Cross. Authorities say the collision involved a Vauxhall Vivaro van and an electric off-road motorcycle. Emergency services rushed to the scene where the motorcyclist, believed to be the only person injured in the crash, required hospital treatment for injuries described as serious but not believed to be life-changing.

Perhaps even more concerning for investigators, when South Wales Police officers arrived, they were unable to locate the motorcycle, which had apparently been removed prior to their arrival. The absence of the key vehicle poses additional challenges to the investigation and raises further questions about the sequence of events following the collision.
In an official statement, South Wales Police have urged local residents and motorists who were in the area around the time of the crash to come forward with information. Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam footage, as such evidence could prove crucial to understanding what happened.
PC Ross McGrath of the Roads Policing Unit expressed gratitude to the members of the public who assisted emergency crews at the scene. He reiterated the force’s appeal, saying, “We are very appreciative of those who helped at the time. However, we urge anyone who saw the collision or who has information they haven’t yet shared to contact us. Dashcam footage from vehicles driving in the vicinity could be especially valuable to our enquiry.”
The police are also interested in learning more about the whereabouts of the missing electric off-road motorcycle. Officers are appealing to anyone who might know where the bike is now, or who saw it being taken from the scene, to make contact.
Incidents such as this can have significant impacts not just on those directly involved, but also on the wider community. Police seek to provide reassurance to the public that an active investigation is underway and that all avenues are being pursued to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash. The removal of the motorcycle from the scene is an unusual and concerning element which police are treating with due seriousness.
Residents of Bonymaen and the broader Swansea area have been encouraged to stay vigilant and to share any information that might provide leads in the ongoing police investigation. Crashes involving off-road or electric vehicles are becoming more common, contributing to ongoing debates about road safety and regulation as new types of vehicles increasingly share the roads with cars and vans.
Police have provided multiple options for anyone wishing to get in touch. Members of the public can contact South Wales Police by referencing incident number 2500172648 via live chat on the force’s website, by phoning 101, or by calling 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously through Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.
As the investigation continues, further updates are expected from South Wales Police. In the meantime, the community is united in wishing the injured man a full and swift recovery. The incident stands as an important reminder of the need for all road users to exercise care and responsibility – and for the public to assist police whenever clarifying the details of such serious incidents.
