Public voting is now underway on the Simply Business website, with the champion set to receive a £2,500 cash boost—a timely reward as many small businesses continue to weather difficult economic conditions. The winner is scheduled to be revealed on 23rd June, following a round of public voting and final deliberation by a panel, including entrepreneur and The Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur.

The contest has unearthed a wide and wonderfully imaginative collection of entry names, each one reflecting the owner’s personality and passion. This year’s shortlist features an eclectic mix: from “Back To The Fuschia,” a gardening specialist in Bromley, to “Balti Towers,” a play on the much-loved Fawlty Towers and a Kashmiri restaurant in Halesowen, West Midlands. There’s even a mobile food truck titled “Pietanic” trading in Birmingham, not to mention “Lawn and Order,” a Watford-based gardening company with a sharp sense of pun.

Among the contenders are businesses like “Dae-It-Yersel,” a Scottish DIY and timber shop in Dunoon, and “Damsel in This Dress”, a seamstress operating out of Harlech, Wales. Animal lovers might giggle at “The Fast and the Furriest,” a dog-walking service in Dundee, or “So Bee It,” a honey farm in Lancashire. Meanwhile, “The Jobfather” handyman service in Ardingly and “The Nobody Inn” pub and B&B in Exeter round out this year’s selection of comedic contenders.

Simply Business’s own research offers insight into the value of a good chuckle for UK consumers. Two-thirds of respondents said a funny or clever business name made them more likely to visit, while 65 per cent viewed a witty name as evidence of creativity and originality within the business.

Harpreet Kaur, who is helping to choose this year’s winner, highlighted the importance of a business’s name as its very first opportunity to make an impression. “Your name isn’t just a label – it’s your first pitch, your brand personality, and your chance to stand out in a crowded market,” she remarked. Kaur praised the shortlisted businesses for their inventive use of language, adding: “Creativity doesn’t cost a penny but can be invaluable in brand recognition.”

Julie Fisher, UK CEO at Simply Business, echoed the sentiment and acknowledged the challenges currently facing small enterprises. “Every year, we’re reminded just how bold and brilliantly original the UK’s small business community can be – and this year’s entries have truly raised the bar,” she said. Fisher went on to say that the competition provides an important platform to celebrate not only the businesses but also the people behind them, who continue to drive innovation with both humour and determination.

The contest has garnered significant attention on social media, where supporters are encouraged to vote for their local favourites. The light-hearted campaign also serves as a reminder of the role small businesses play in contributing to the diversity and character of British high streets.

As anticipation builds for the announcement later this month, all eyes are now on which playful pun or clever twist will capture the public’s imagination – and take home the title of Britain’s most comical business name in 2025. The competition also sheds light on the spirit of resilience, resourcefulness, and cheerfulness that characterises independent enterprises across the country.

Regardless of who takes the crown, it’s clear that humour remains a much-loved and effective tool for building customer loyalty and standing out in a bustling marketplace. Shoppers and supporters can cast their vote on the Simply Business website until the 23rd of June.
