The family of a young woman who tragically lost her life in a car crash on a major road in Carmarthenshire has paid tribute to her vibrant spirit and loving character. Eighteen-year-old Sally Allen, from Cresswell Quay near Kilgetty, died after being involved in a collision on Wednesday morning, 23 July, on the A40 at Broadoak — a route situated between Carmarthen and Llandeilo.

Describing Sally as a “treasured daughter” who brought light to every room, her family’s statement reflects the immense sense of loss felt by loved ones and the wider community. Sally, who was a keen horse-rider and enthusiastic member of the Young Farmers Club, was known for her endlessly caring nature and infectious sense of humour. Her family remember her as, “the most amazing, supportive and joyful person,” and say the outpouring of affection since her passing has highlighted just how deeply she touched those around her.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, which involved a red Renault Clio and a blue Audi Q5. The collision took place shortly after 8am, prompting an emergency response and the temporary closure of the A40 in both directions. According to Dyfed-Powys Police, Sally, who was driving the Renault, sadly died at the scene. The occupants of the Audi Q5 are reported to have sustained injuries described as non-life threatening and were taken to hospital for further treatment.

Sally’s family have expressed their devastation at the sudden loss, noting that her absence leaves an “unfillable space” in the hearts of many. Tributes poured in from far and wide, underscoring her popularity not only within her own family but amongst friends, colleagues and members of the community. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Kate, her siblings, William and Issie, as well as her grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins, all of whom are drawing support from one another during this profoundly difficult time.
In the family’s words, Sally found happiness in the day-to-day aspects of rural life, relishing her involvement in Martletwy Young Farmers Club and spending time with horses at her home in Cresswell Quay. Her “sparkling presence and beaming smile,” they noted, brought joy wherever she went and her legacy will long endure amongst those who knew her.
Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was travelling on the A40 in the area at the relevant time and may have dashcam footage, to get in touch. They hope to gather more information to assist with ongoing enquiries and to provide answers for Sally’s grieving relatives. Witnesses can offer information by contacting Dyfed-Powys Police online, via email, direct message on social media or by phoning 101, referencing the case number 075 of 23 July. The independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously.
Serious collisions such as this serve as a sombre reminder of the inherent risks present on busy roads, and the profound impact loss has on close-knit communities. Police investigations into fatal incidents often take time, with officers seeking to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash and understand all contributing factors.
For local residents, the tragedy has focused attention on road safety, particularly along stretches of the A40 notorious for challenging driving conditions. Calls for witnesses underline the importance of community cooperation in supporting investigations and, ultimately, working towards safer travel for all.
As Sally’s family and friends continue to come to terms with their sudden and heartbreaking bereavement, they are being comforted by the memories of a young woman who brought laughter, kindness and joy into so many lives. The Allen family asks for privacy as they grieve, thanking the wider community for their support and good wishes.
Information on funeral arrangements has not yet been released, and those wishing to pay respects are encouraged to remember Sally’s warmth, humour and love for community life — values that will remain her enduring legacy.
