Dr Alex George is opening up about a major lifestyle transformation that saw him go from weighing over 20 stone to a healthier and happier version of himself. Just a couple of years back, the former Love Island star realised his diet was filled with processed foods and too much alcohol, which took a toll on his well-being during a tough period of grief and depression.

Fast forward to today, and Dr Alex has rehabbed his lifestyle. “I stopped drinking and began embracing a diverse diet, full of proteins, carbohydrates, and nutrients,” he shared. “Fueling my body changed everything. It’s not a magic fix for all problems, but it’s a powerful component of broader health changes.”

As someone who has worn many hats—TV medic, former NHS A&E doctor, and podcaster—Dr Alex has learned a lot about how gut health impacts mental well-being. “The gut, often called the second brain, plays a huge role in our mood,” he explained. “When I changed my diet, focusing more on varied and colourful foods, I also brought about improvements in my mental health.”

Dr Alex now advocates for small changes that make a big difference when combined. “I started eating better, moving more, and also sought therapy,” he says. “I’m not aiming for perfection—about 80% of what I eat is what I consider ‘good,’ and that works for me.”
Teaming up with Vietnamese food brand Pho, Dr Alex is all about promoting the benefits of bone broth, an unexpected favourite of his. “It’s loaded with collagen—great for skin and joints,” he says.
And while processed foods are impossible to avoid entirely, he advises minimal consumption and tuning into how what you eat makes you feel. “If something makes you feel bad afterward, your body’s trying to tell you something!”
Adopting a colourful and balanced diet not only helped Dr Alex lose weight but also put him on a path of overall wellness. He’s not about deprivation, but mindful enjoyment, suggesting everyone should aim for a plate that’s a feast for the eyes, too! 🌈🥙
