Life’s full of surprises, and for Ann Lally, it’s been quite the rollercoaster. Just months after her husband Mike passed away from pancreatic cancer, Ann herself received the same sombre diagnosis, advanced pancreatic cancer with a prognosis of six months. Yet, in a twist of fate, she’s defying the odds and celebrating new life and precious moments.

Living in Greater Manchester, Ann has not only surpassed her six-month “expiry date,” but has also had the joy of welcoming her first grandchild, Arthur, this June. After undergoing chemotherapy at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, her tumours impressively shrank by 42%, allowing her to enjoy life without constant medical treatment. Ann now has regular check-ups, with no current need for medications.

Reflecting on her unexpected journey, Ann expressed shock at both she and Mike receiving the same diagnosis. Although Mike couldn’t undergo treatment due to existing health conditions and passed away in March 2024, Ann continues to cherish his memory and their nearly 50-year marriage. Despite initial disbelief and heartbreak from her diagnosis, she found new strength upon learning she would become a grandmother.
Living life to the fullest, Ann has embraced every opportunity, from holidays and parties to everyday adventures. She remains thankful for every extra moment, determined to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and the exceptional care she received at The Christie.
Her inspiring story is a testament to resilience. As Ann says, “The prognosis you are given doesn’t mean it’s the end. I just live life to the full, I accept every invitation and I have so much to look forward to. I feel very lucky.” Let Ann’s journey inspire you to seize each day and savour every moment!
