📢 Residents in Penarth weren’t too pleased when a new restaurant, Silures, jumped the gun with its celebration! 🎉 They announced a toast to their new alcohol licence on Facebook before getting official approval. Situated at the historic Holm House, a former celeb hotspot, the restaurant caused a stir among locals who are worried about late-night noise and events.

🎶 Holm House, known for its peace and quiet, left residents reeling during a July event when “thumping bass” filled the neighbourhood. Ian Wheadon, a local, uploaded a video capturing the noise, calling it a “public nuisance” and saying he could hear it all the way down the street.

🤔 Some feel the announcement was a misunderstanding. Silures’ director, Daf Andrews, expressed regret over how the Facebook post was perceived, insisting they were simply optimistic about the outcome. Their solicitor, Matthew Phipps, also described it as a “misfortunate” incident, with discussions now underway to address neighbours’ concerns.
🍴 Holm House holds a contentious new licence, permitting alcohol sales from 12pm to 11pm Sunday-Thursday, and 10am to midnight on weekends. While the Vale of Glamorgan Council eventually granted the licence, the community remains cautious about future disturbances. One resident, Nicky Evans, shared, “We need a good night’s sleep… venues with late music here are unacceptable.”
🏡 Silures has promised to follow conditions set by South Wales Police to minimise disruption, with no objections from other authorities. While locals fear the noise might disrupt the serene vibe of Marine Parade, others see potential in the revamped spot – if managed right!
