Unbelievable! After experiencing one of the driest six-month spells since 1976, parts of Wales have officially entered drought status. 🏞️ Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has sounded the alarm for areas like Wye, Usk, the Valleys, and Vale of Glamorgan due to exceptionally low river flows and groundwater levels. July didn’t offer much relief with scorching, dry weather making a strong comeback.

NRW reports low flows and dry riverbeds, affecting fish and causing algal blooms in many places. Despite the severity, our public drinking water remains safe. However, NRW and Welsh Water are urging everyone to use water wisely this summer. Every drop counts!

South East Wales bore the brunt, receiving just 53% of the average July rainfall. This situation mirrors the drought crises experienced in 1976 and more recently in 2022.

Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and be mindful of your water usage. Remember, a little goes a long way in conserving our precious resources, especially now.

Be a part of the solution! Are you seeing any environmental issues like distressed fish or dry riverbeds? Report it using NRW’s incident hotline at 03000 65 3000.
