🌍 World leaders weigh in! 🌍 After the Trump-Putin summit in Anchorage left the world buzzing but without a concrete agreement, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stepped up to share his thoughts. He applauded Donald Trump’s efforts towards ending the conflict in Ukraine, saying they’ve brought us “closer than ever before” to peace. However, Starmer emphasised that Ukraine’s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, must be involved in future peace talks.

The summit, which took place in Alaska, saw Trump and Putin walking away without a solid deal to end the war in Ukraine. Yet, Trump remained optimistic, claiming “great progress” was made and hinting at more to come. Zelensky, poised to meet Trump soon, aims to continue talks and push for genuine peace. He’s adamant about achieving a lasting resolution, stressing that any ceasefire should include the release of prisoners of war and captured civilians.

Starmer has been in close contact with Western allies, discussing steps forward after the summit. In a joint statement with key NATO countries, leaders vowed to stay tough on Russia and provide Ukraine with security guarantees to prevent future aggression. Starmer cheered the commitment of the US and Europe to back Ukraine robustly and hinted at a coalition of willing peacekeepers being ready to put boots on the ground once a deal is reached.
At the heart of the discussions? Ensuring Russia holds no sway over Ukraine’s choices to join the EU and NATO, and tightening sanctions on Russia until a fair peace deal is achieved. As Zelensky looks to his upcoming Washington DC meeting, expectations are high for progress, possibly paving the way for direct talks with Putin.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for lasting peace and an end to the suffering. 🤞 #PeaceForUkraine #GlobalDiplomacy #WorldLeadersUnite
