A tragic day at Cartmel Racecourse saw chaos as a horse collided with onlookers, seriously injuring two people and unfortunately losing its own life. This shocking incident happened during a lively Bank Holiday race meeting, which even had boxing champion Tyson Fury in attendance. Wbee, a 10-year-old racehorse, veered off course after suffering a veterinary issue during its third race, a demanding handicap hurdle. Despite the quick action from medical teams, Wbee did not survive, and the spectators injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

The drama didn’t stop there. Over at Ripon, jockey Charli Parker took a heavy fall during the final race, leading to her hospitalisation. Thankfully, her horse, Star Start, came out unscathed. The race was a rollercoaster of emotions for all involved, with Tyson Fury watching on as his part-owned horse had a delayed run.

As hearts go out to those impacted by these events, it’s a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sport. The races were temporarily paused, reflecting the collective concern and safety measures in place, until they resumed 38 minutes later. Let’s hope for a swift recovery for all involved and safer racing days ahead.
