We’re bidding farewell to a broadcasting legend, Gerry Harrison, who’s passed away at 89. This much-loved ITV sport presenter was a familiar face during the 70s and 80s, bringing football into our living rooms with flair and passion. Gerry was known for his work on Anglia’s Match of the Week, and left his mark on six World Cups, the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, and more. 🎙️

Colleagues remember Gerry as an “inspirational figure” and master of his craft, with Tony Jones sharing how much he learned under Gerry’s mentorship. His ability to write and deliver scripts was unmatched, setting a standard many strived for in the industry.

Stuart Jarrold, another former colleague, hailed him as “the voice of East Anglian football” and a “thoroughly decent bloke” who always did his homework, making commentary sound easy. Ian Darke from ESPN joins the chorus of tributes, praising Gerry as a pleasure to work with and a big loss to the world of sports broadcasting.

Tonight, ITV will pay homage to Gerry with a special tribute during the EFL Cup broadcast between Grimsby Town and Manchester United. Let’s all tune in and celebrate the life of a man who was not only a consummate professional but also a ‘lovely chap’ remembered fondly by all who knew him. RIP Gerry. ⚽📺
