In a twist you wouldn’t believe, a former headteacher from Swansea is back in the headlines! Anthony Felton, who’s been behind bars for attacking his deputy with a wrench in a fit of jealousy earlier this year, has just been released on a home detention curfew. It turns out the drama all unfolded over a love triangle at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive in Neath Port Talbot, which left the school and community shocked.

Felton, 54, was sentenced in April after assaulting longtime friend and colleague Richard Pyke. The attack, which left Mr. Pyke with minor injuries, stemmed from Felton discovering that Pyke was involved in a relationship with the same teacher he was interested in, and the apparent father of her child too!
Now, Felton is back home but under strict conditions, including an electronic tag ensuring he’s off the streets for at least 12 hours daily. The Ministry of Justice has deemed it safe under certain terms, but reiterated that breaking any of these conditions could see him straight back to prison.

Felton’s early release has been confirmed by the Prison Service, who stress that all similar releases involve thorough risk assessments. Remember, all this drama didn’t come without Felton making a quick getaway from the school after the incident, even sending an email apology to the entire staff later.
He was initially appointed headteacher in September 2023 but will probably be remembered more for this sensational incident. With strict licence conditions in place, time will tell what Felton’s next chapter holds.
