🚨 **Police Officer Faces Action After Tragic Ely E-bike Crash** 🚨

A police officer is set to face a misconduct hearing following the heartbreaking e-bike crash in Ely that claimed the lives of teens Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, back in May 2023. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has concluded its investigation, pointing to inconsistencies in the officer’s account of events.

Though their investigation reveals no direct contact between the police vehicle and the e-bike, questions have been raised about the officer’s driving and conduct. The IOPC suggests that his driving exceeded his training and authority limits, conflicting with police regulations.
CCTV captured a police van trailing the teenagers shortly before the crash, though the van was on a different road, around half a mile away at the time of the incident.
IOPC Director David Ford expressed his condolences to the families and acknowledged the impact of the tragedy on the local community. The investigation was thorough, examining the police’s interactions with the boys prior to the crash and officers’ subsequent accounts.
South Wales Police Assistant Chief Constable Simon Belcher reaffirmed the force’s cooperation with the investigation, sharing evidence, including CCTV and body-worn footage. Although the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to file criminal charges, the families are challenging this under the Victims’ Right to Review.
The disciplinary proceedings will aim to provide answers to lingering questions surrounding this heartbreaking event, with the hope of bringing clarity and some measure of closure to those affected. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of Kyrees and Harvey. 💔 #Ely #JusticeForKyreesAndHarvey
