Upon arriving at Morriston Hospital, Michael faced a marathon of surgeries and critical care due to a sudden respiratory arrest. Eight days in an induced coma later, he awoke to discover his right arm paralysed – a nightmare he hadn’t anticipated.

Michael stresses, “I walked in with my arm perfectly fine. I was devastated when confronted with my worst fear – losing the use of a limb.”

The journey didn’t end there. Amid ICU delirium and battling various infections, Michael found himself on a path filled with uncertainty and isolation. Despite his condition, he claims there was scant communication, even with his family, which left them worried and in the dark.

Moreover, Michael shares that his pleas for aftercare went largely unanswered with considerable delays in getting essential therapy appointments. After enduring a lengthy wait, he’s only now seeing some movement towards the care he needs.

“This has been profoundly isolating. All I want is accountability and to ensure nobody else suffers like this,” Michael expresses.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has launched an investigation into his case, but as of yet, no resolution has been shared with Michael. The wait for answers continues.

Let’s hope for swift justice and improved healthcare processes so no one finds themselves in a similar situation. πŸ™
