🚨 Health Crisis Alert in Wales! 🚑

In the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board region, covering areas like Newport, Caerphilly, and Monmouthshire, hundreds of patients are enduring shocking delays, waiting over an hour in ambulances before entering hospital doors. These lengthy waits add up to a whopping 3,158 hours each month—equivalent to four months lost outside hospitals in just this part of Wales!

But change is on the horizon! The health board is rolling out a fresh strategy aimed at slashing wait times and easing the overwhelming pressure on our NHS. Key goals include reducing average ambulance wait figures from nearly 800 to under 500 patients monthly. 🚑🎯

What’s in the plan? 🤔
1️⃣ Enhanced training for care home staff to better assist residents, especially those who’ve had falls, thereby reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.
2️⃣ A revamp of frailty and elderly care services to create a more efficient, sustainable support system for our vulnerable populations.
3️⃣ Focused efforts on improving ambulance handovers, cutting down long hospital stays, and addressing care delays to boost patient outcomes and system efficiency.
Chief Executive Nicola Prygodzicz emphasises the urgent need: “Getting patients home safely and swiftly is critical.” With the number of long-term hospital stays having risen by 23.1% in five years, this plan is crucial to combat deconditioning and promote recovery at home.
Stay tuned for updates as the board works tirelessly to improve the situation and enhance patient experiences. Let’s hope for a speedy resolution to these challenges! 🙏
