Security staff at the Houses of Parliament are set to strike this Wednesday over ongoing pay and condition disputes. Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) will walk out for 24 hours, with another strike planned for September 10. As part of their protest, they’ve also imposed an overtime ban until September 12.

PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote highlighted the dedication of these workers, saying, “Our members at the Palace of Westminster, who ensure the safety of MPs, Lords, staff, and visitors, are fighting for fair treatment as Parliament returns from recess.”
In response, a Parliament spokesperson expressed disappointment over the impending strikes, citing several months of ongoing discussions to resolve these issues. The spokesperson emphasized that security staff are valued colleagues and assured that contingency plans with the Met Police are in place to maintain safety and prevent disruptions to parliamentary business.
